Question #10: Which sex do you think has it easier in our culture? Have you ever wished you were of the opposite sex?

I think men have it easier. Not with everything or in every way of course. But in general. I think women are judged on their looks and their weight more than men are. I think women are pressured to have kids more than men are. I think women are criticized if they stay home with kids but also if they go back to work, but I don't think people get on the man's case as much no matter what he does. Women tend to be the ones who are blamed for unplanned pregnancy, or if a boy is distracted in school because he is looking at a girl, and are often even the one who gets blamed if they get raped. And there is a tremendous amount of violence against women and so many rules, laws, and expectations limiting what women can wear and do in many places. But even so, I've never really wanted to be a man.

I'm more stuck on the "in our culture" part of that question.
Which culture?
I'm a part of a couple different ones....
and it made me start thinking about how you define a culture, and how you know what's "your" culture and what are things you've picked up from other cultures and internalized that you don't even realize.

And are those things now *part* of "your" culture?
When does that change happen?

What if you do the reverse, and instead of adopting something, you reject something?
Does that mean that thing *isn't* part of "your" culture any longer?
But how do you actually judge that -most cultures try to reject bigotry and racism and other forms of hate, for example. But if they're still present, even if they are being fought against, is it part of the culture still or not?

I am quite content being female. Sometimes it bothers me that people don't take me seriously because I look a lot younger than I am, so I'm often just that "cute little girl" . I do sometimes wish that I was a guy, I usually get along with guys better and they are easier to talk to and often more friendly then girls. Usually they don't even consider the idea that you can be friends even if you aren't the same gender..

Sometimes I do. I think I would have had more confidante as a man. But I can't complain about being a girl. I'm quite clingy and I don't think that's a very attractive quality in a man

loaded question. i think it's naive to say that the genders are 100% equal because that has not been the case historically whatsoever, but that being said there is nothing that should be stopping them from being equal.

imo gender in of itself is already a loaded concept as is because they you get int territories involving cultures that recognize genders/gender expression outside the norm of male/female.

personally though, my life -would- be easier as a cismale because in my culture, women are supposed to do so-and-so things, look pretty, speak softly, impress men or whatever... my parents to this day at age 24 no doubt) still restrict things i do, so it's not much a surprise i identify as trans/not straight LOL

I guess I think right now women have it better, there's less controversy about how they act and what they say.

I often wish I was born a guy, though. Many things about me would make more sense. Lol.
