It does show how many you need to walk, similarly to how egg distances are displayed.

Hotarla
You're better off walking in a straight line as far as you can within your wifi range, back and forth. >.>;

I got the update yesterday evening :)
I've set my Magikarp as buddy for now, since it only needs 1 km per candy. Already got some for walking to town and getting groceries earlier.

Working on my 3rd candy for my Dratini. Got in almost 10 kilometers yesterday. Did a mass evolve with a Lucky Egg today so now I'm level 23 with 91 caught out of 92 seen.
