Well, he was never exactly winning...He's always had a ceiling between 30 and 40% of voters.

So only a tiny portion of voters actually vote in the primaries. The people who do are the base, the people you can count on to vote for you in the general election. Traditionally, if you're a candidate you spend the primary building your base and the period right before the convention to unite the party behind your candidacy. Then during the summer you try to expand that base by appealing to voters who didn't vote in the primary and who don't traditionally fall into your wheelhouse, you know, swing voters etc. The fall is supposed to be about the debates, last minute cage fights, and making sure your voters actually get to the polls come the big day.

Trump didn't win the primary with a majority of votes. Less than half of the Republican primary voters actually voted for him, but because the primary field was so large no other candidate was able to get as many votes as they needed to push them over the top. In the end, I think only 4.5% of eligible voters actually voted for Trump.

And Clinton got more votes in the primary than Trump did.

Here's a great and simple graphic from the New York Times titled Only 9% ofAmerica Chose Trump And Clinton as the Nominees:

I read the first link you posted Pwale. Nice read, especially the comments. So glad so many people out there are against that moron. HAHHA. Now he is acting like some insane person. Well he was before but now he is acting exactly like the poor mentally retarded people he was making fun of at one of his damn rallies in the past. So glad his true self is now more out. Maybe more people will be thinking twice, expect for the few that are psycho who are die hard followers, but they don't count really to me. They are too stupid to count.

I think he's most dangerous right now. He has no impulse control, he's angry and desperate and he either doesn't understand that he's inciting violence or he just doesn't care.

I've been thinking about the old adage that democracy only works when people get involved. That's true, but I think it might be a good idea to add that people need to have confidence in democracy in order for it to work at all. Trump's damaging that confidence, and if people don't accept election results the whole thing will fall apart fast. And I don't know if Trump is capable of conceding.

Knowing how much of a jerk he is. There is no way he'd know how to concede.
I'm glad knowing alot of people don't believe in him. But there are the few out there that do and they are the ones to worry about. I just hope next month is a safe month after the results are announced. We really need the peace right now. And with him acting out the way he is, just shows how much of a stupid child he really is to be honest.

Trump 2016! I'm just kidding.

Most people know he's not a true politician. He's as transparent as a window. Politicians need to be sneaky and corrupt. Trump won't be able to get anything done if you can read his intentions like a picture book.

You have hugged Hana-chan!

I just remembered it was Wednesday. There's the last debate today. I want to watch it but I probably won't until later. Anyone else watching it?

I don't like Trump either, his ideas and what he does isn't good at all. If he did win, it would impact my girlfriend, and her family and I don't want to see her go through that, along with so many other people. I'm all speechless now, but when I'm talking to her about stuff like this I don't shut up. She has so much more to say about it though. I don't follow along with everything right away but the things I've heard are, *shakes head* It's just amazing that people actually listen to what he says.

I can't watch it, as it'll be 5 in the morning for me or something crazy, unfortunately.
Trump is absolutely crazy. His ideas are also extremely unrealistic, even more so than those of other candidates. I have no idea how he would be able to lead a country. Like HeartOfSteal said, he's not a politician. He's a businessman.

That might have actually been the best debate yet. There was substantive discussion about actual issues, at the very least.

At one point they were asked about Mosul, and the current battle to seize the city back from ISIS control. This question especially underlined the differences between the two candidates. Clinton gave a very cogent, rational response that demonstrated her deep understanding of the situation, whereas Trump didn't seem to know where Mosul was or who was involved in the battle. He kept saying "we're going to take the city" when it is in fact the Iraqis who are fighting to take back the city.

At another point, Trump was asked if he would accept the election results. He refused. He said "I'm going to keep you in suspense." That is dangerous, irresponsible, and destructive to our democracy. I'm absolutely furious.

I also heard all over the internet that he wouldn't let Clinton speak at the debate. What I was reading was that it was a massive failure again on his part, but at least something was accomplished at it. And Of course Clinton gave the proper answers like she seems to do.

Right? I was listening to NPR earlier and they said something interesting.

"Right now, Clinton is actually representing the Democrats and the Republicans."

I think that's really true. I think part of the reason so many people don't like her is that she's almost compromise personified. She's pragmatic, realistic and studied. She's pretty centrist because she almost only ever talks about the things she can actually achieve. That's not a crowd-pleaser, but it's...capable. That, to me, is what a capable politician looks like.
