If you have trouble understandting what falls under "skin color", you are free to use exactly the shade of the reference picture.
thanks that's precisely what people wanted to know. otherwise you'd end up with a tifunee of chestnut, chocolate, coffee, copper, rose, and marble skin colors (and would probably disqualify the entries, even though the color was not specified in the first place)

I believe most people are able to use common sense. I never specified skin colors for any of our previous art contests and people managed just fine with the reference pictures they were given.

yes but you specify it for other parts of character design in this particular reference, so it's natural that people ask. plus your previous contests experience plays virtually no role because not everyone has participated in them or knows about them so people won't go "ah right Firn always does it like that's, everything's clear". no. some things you don't specify are not obvious and this has nothing to do with common sense *shrugs*

If you have a character reference picture and the character has the skin shade of a human being, making the logical conlusion that the character should have the skin color of a human being and not for example have purple skin, is common sense to me. Maybe we have a different unerstanding of common sense, or maybe you think too lowly of our user community. I trust them to be smart enough to be able to figure out that Tifunees skin is somehow in the color spectrum of a human being's skin.

And that's really all I have to say about this, because I think this discussion is kind of unecessary. :mcheh:

no one had purple in mind. you basically just said that brown (chocolate, chestnut, coffee), tan (copper), and pale (rose, marble) are not human skin colors and that indeed ends the discussion

edit: or if you meant that any human skin color works, that was akili's question you ignored

I didn't say that, but feel free to interpret it that way, if it makes you happy. :mccute:

thank you. casually mentioning that there still was no answer to the question whether her skin can be of ANY human color or if she has to be Caucasian. I don't understand why there's a need to beg for it while there seemed to be no problem in getting replies concerning other contests

Erm, I'm just gonna poke in here and comment that in nowhere did Firn say that Tifunee is 'Caucasian'... And it doesn't really make sense to argue that she is because 1. She's a CAT, a cat with 'skin' that's creamy colored FUR. And 2. If you really want to get precise her 'skin color' isn't even that light to be categorized as Caucasian, if you really wanna put a race to it it could pass as Asian or Latino or some mix race etc.... So again- cream colored cat. I don't know about anyone else but I don't look at dark furred cats and label them as African, or white cats as Caucasian, let's just all keep in mind that Tifunee is just a fantasy cat girl and not even a human please?
I really don't think Firn is trying to confuse anyone or be inconsiderate. It's really not worth the argument to turn it into a social justice issue. perhaps it was an unfortunate choice of words to define it as a generic skin color, but I'm sure anyone who just looks at the reference would understand that her skin/fur is obviously not supposed to be ivory or black or purple...
