(So is it just me that sometimes looks at this thread and thinks, "how many people post their backstories, that you can judge who has the best background? And what criteria are you using, anyhow? Connections, resources, what?")
Anyhow.
Backgrounds....
Honestly, it's kind of hard to make out your backgrounds, because the frames cut off the edges and your avatars block most of the view, but I think I can see more of what's happening behind Anime.
So I'll go with Anime for this one.
(Are those columns a separate item or part of the background? Honestly it wouldn't half surprise me to learn you both are wearing the same background and just have a lot of different things layered over it for final effects; I'm seeing a similar theme and color choice back there)
