Any ideas what I could do to make it acceptable? I don't want to change too much since I'm happy with the results and I wouldn't want the final one to end up cramped up with details. Would adding underwear to phase 1 and cutting phase 3's hair do the trick?
Or maybe I could make 1. use her arms to cover herself?
First, your Knuffel starts out naked. Not only does this appear very much like you didn'T really come up with any good idea for the first stage, because your first stage is basically "nothing", but it is also not any kind of evolution to the second stage: Your Knuffel just dresses up. Add clothes to the first stage and make them evolve into clothes from the second stage.
Also, your Knuffel needs a lot more changes. It should be at least 3 big evolutionary changes per stage. Right now you have
Stage 1-2: No evolution, just dress up.
Stage 2-3: Hair gets longer, cloth thingy evolves (These are both good changes)
stage 3-4: Headpiece gets added ( Also, small changes: Blush and ankle bracelet, these are not enough as they are not very noticable)
stage 4-5: wings. That's it. at least 2 more big changes are needed.
I agree with the previous suggestion to make an inbetween step with the hair: Make it medium length in stage 3 and have it evolved longer in stage 4 and even longer in stage 5. That will already add a lot to the medium stages. Maybe even make the changes visible enough so you can keep the rest. But you really need to work on the evolution between stage 1-2 and 4-5.
