Way late, but me? I think Miyazaki is pretty unimaginative. His drawings are very VERY pretty and very detailed. You can tell that he's put a lot of effort and love into each and every frame. But the stories and characters, I find a bit lacking. Pretty much every film he makes stars the same people (or at least, people who look exactly the same), and while they usually have a good build up, I find a lot of his stories very confusing because there are a lot of threads that aren't followed up, lot of plot points that aren't explained properly, and the endings are very unsatisfying. Like Spirited Away. It feels like there should be a sequel, and there is not. And I doubt there ever will be.
While I can see your point, I thinks that means that films aren't "your think" in general since that problem is omnipresent in all genres, of almost all authors, if you can avoid it without spending houndreds of hours of your life on research, you must tell me your secret.
