Well, this has made me realize one thing...my screen is so small that I have to zoom out three times from default in order to see the whole background. So perhaps I am getting a greater percentage of white than people with larger computers.
Of course light sensitivity is something that is not only harmful of Kofk. But it's not something that is fixed through screen calibration either. (For word documents and the outdoors, I have a special pair of sunglasses. Unfortunately for pages with a lot of color they make it slightly worse instead.) So yes, those other sites hurt us too. But for me personally, I spend no more than five minutes there on an irregular basis (for the ones I use at all), whereas KofK was somewhere I spent several hours nearly every single day.
As Alice said, I'm shrinking the window to the size of the contents, which works well for the forums. However, this doesn't work on the quickfeed page (and others with the same gradient) since it only becomes a tolerable brightness about halfway down. Even if the background's not changed (and thank you for considering a modification), would it be possible to adjust the gradient on these pages to start from a darker shade?
Multiple themes are always a nice option, but I recognize that they are a lot of work - even large sites like dragcave have had to decrease the number of theme options because of all the testing required to keep them working with each update. So they likely take more time than you and Starkad are able to spend; which is my reason for requesting a single, non-painful background rather than the ability to choose between multiple.
On the frames: Is it possible to give them a transparent background? Then they would work not only here and on sites with white backgrounds, but sites with other colors too
