We went through the whole end of summer school supplies shopping and it got me to thinking about how I loved buying supplies that I liked.
I always had a ton of Lisa Frank supplies.
I wanted my sister to be able to buy stuff she wanted and not plain, boring stuff she wouldn't like.
She already has to wear a uniform so the only individuality she's allowed is her school supplies.
I think it's good to allow children to express their individuality and not smother their creativity and originality.

As someone that lives on the internet, I've come across the term "special snowflake" a lot.
People say "You're one of a kind!" and "You're not special!" but I disagree.
There is no one 100% like you and there never will be.
So I find telling people they're not special or unique really stupid in that sense.

I think you should always help build people up instead of tearing them day.
Never smother or censor someone's creativity and artwork.

And I see people saying something isn't original or it's been done too many times.
I disagree with this too.
People STILL love vampires, no matter how old and how many times vampire stuff has been done before.
Each person can take something and add things to it to make it different.
So just because something you write exists in some way, if you put your own spin on it - it'll be different and original.

What do you think?

I don't really have anything to add, just that I agree! And I was glad I didn't have to wear a uniform!

I think individuality is something that shows in your personality, not something that has to be shown necessarily with trinkets or clothes.

I would have preferred a uniform because people are so shallow and judge you by the first thing they see.

There is nothing wrong with being different or wanting to show your own individuality. It makes you who you are. No one has to follow all the other people, you can take the lead and show others what you are made of.

I must say though, some people go a little far with it. If one wears pastel or loose clothes fashion more often than the usual, that doesn't mean they can "claim" it as their own.

Another story: I have a friend who really likes being individualistic, which I totally don't mind. But as soon as I started listening to a song or bought something she had (that I didn't know), she would drop it and say she doesn't like it anymore. It kind of makes me feel bad that I was the one who initiated it. You know?

oh I hate these people who try to be original just because. You should.n't feel guilty about it. In the end, you just followed what you liked.

I don't mind people being a little excentric when it's their personality and when it's what they really like. But Wanting to be original at all costs just for the sake of it...no thanks!

My sister went to a different school that had uniforms and a girl insulted my sister's shoes and clothes.
So even with uniforms, people are still hateful xD

I don't think it's wrong to buy stuff that matches your personality.
I wear mostly black and most shirts are horror themed. My family doesn't like my shirts much, but they're mine and I like them xD
I've been told to "Wear something nice instead!"
>_> I think my shirts are nice.

It's right to be yourself fully without worrying about what others think.
But people will always be hateful, no matter what you do.

People who never had to wear school uniforms tend to think that forcing kids to wear them cuts out bullying, which is ridiculous. Kids who DID wear uniforms know that there are still differences, the newness of the uniform for example, or the slight variations in HOW you wear them (socks pulled up, down, etc). Clothes are such a small part of why kids are bullied, it's really stupid that most people in places where they have no uniforms think they should be introduced. XP

Also, people who say caustic, jaded shit like "Yeah you're unique, just like everyone else" should be punched in the face. Embracing that kind of snarky garbage makes you an asshole.

i agree with the op. even if something seems banal to someone else, there's always somebody out there who's never read a vampire novel and is about to have their world blown apart. the older i get, the harder a time i have finding things i enjoy that don't feel stale to me. that doesn't mean i want every one of those things to stop existing just because they're not new to me. because that would be stupid, lmao.
as far as the "special snowflake" cynicism goes, the edgy reddit teenager vibe you get every time you hear that dumb shit is enough to make you want to start digging your own grave.
