No, you cannot increase the effect. Onnly one item with the same effect will apply.
If you hover over the word "stack" in the description, you get an even further explanation, that explains that only one of the items gives you an effetc, if you wear multiple items with similar effects. This means that if you wear an item giving you +25% for food finding possibility, you get 25%, if you wear two of these items, you don't get 50%, but still only the 25%. If you wear an item giving you 25% and one givingy ou 50%, you also don't get 75%, but the one with the highest effetc only, so 50%.

The Sour apples auto-feed. Do they also give Experience?

Yes. The effects that do not stack mean that multiple items with the same effect do not add up, you can of course place multiple items with different effects and have all their effects.
