If you keep leveling it in water you can use it to dig outside it's element
knuffels raised outside of their element grow faster (digging gives you 20-30 exp instead of 5-10)
you just have to remember to keep putting points into water instead of fire
As for the gender it's probably leaning towards female just based on certain cues
but Firn has said before that Knuffels have always been a little ambiguous
so if you want to treat yours as male, that's your call
