The trick is making the babble at least a little bit useful or meaningful or something that someone else can respond to, anyhow.

Which is basic conversation skills, I guess? Only I never really learned those.

I can sit quietly and listen, and ask lots and lots of questions. I can throw stuff out in brainstorming sessions.
Or I can monologue. But actual meaningful dialogue/conversation?

Now, that's HARD.

I disagree with you there or at least, if they did complain there, it would be an invalid complaint. Posting and subscribing and monitoring and replying to forums takes way more time than digging.

But mostly, digging is something that requires only yourself to be successful. You don't have to rely on others to start an interesting conversation, nor to wait for them to reply to keep a conversation going. It's a closed circle, we have only ourselves to rely on, and that's what I like about the games and websites and life that allow me that freedom, unrestricted from the actions of others.

Some of us like to be independent and antisocial. Urging us to do otherwise with items available only to posters is completely in the right of a site-owner who wants more activity on the forums. It will not, however, turn antisocial people into social ones and bring the site back to life, nor will it keep the social ones going indefinitely. It's a temporary band-aid.

Again, not "complaining", simply pointing out that things like this create spam-masquerading-as-not-spam and do not save a site with a problem such as this.

Since there's no notification when you are quoted on these forums, that means I must subscribe to every thread I've posted on and check them all regularly, and then read all the new replies posted that have nothing to do with me just on the off-chance that one might be someone talking to me, until basically forever.
Your posting average is .3 post per day, so that's 1 post per 4 days, which is more often than the 1 post per 6 days I quoted. In fact, you've already increased your posts just by debating the merit of this event on this thread. You've made 5 posts since this thread opened, which is half-way there to one of the hair you wanted. I still think you can manage this just fine and I even gave you a suggestion on how to increase your posts per day without putting too much more effort (and if you subscribed to the threads then you would get emails every time someone posts in those threads so you wouldn't have to check those threads every day, anyway). This is just the first time the Candy Caravan is open and Firn had already mentioned digging and pop-ups may be available in the future, and it probably will after the admins see how this event goes to start with. After 6 months when the Space Bunny Ears are about to expire, it's very likely that there had been a) more methods to gather Frosted Doughnuts and b) the foodpoint prices of the items have gone down monumentally as with all other events.

But it seems to me that you aren't open at all to my suggestion or to the possibility that the future Candy Caravan events might involve other methods that Firn already stated, so I won't bother you with any further posts.

You can only collect Donuts during the days in which the Candy Caravan is open, so only during a few days each month, but you get to keep the currency you have collected. So while you can't collct new Donuts when the "event" is closed, you don't lose them like with other events.

Plaguemouse wrote:Im a little confused too. Forgive me. So, this fella is going to be up regularly, but only for a couple days at a time?
Yes, the Candy Caravan will come here for a few days each month only.
Wow, this is even worse than I thought!

At least for people like me it is.
If we can only get these donuts during 4 days, there's absolutely no chance for someone like me who can barely find the time to come and claim the tokens, much less to post in the forums.

And like others have said, I don't see the point in having to post "spam" cause I really would only be posting random stuff in random threads without actually interacting with people, all just to get donuts. But the spam forums don't count, when whatever I post will still be spam.

I got the 5 donuts I have posting the same amount of posts that basically read"thank you firn for the items" in different announcement threads. See what I mean? It's like going through all the threads in the welcome section just posting "welcome to the forums, enjoy!"

Sadly, this event is not for me.

And I agree with others, I'm also the kind who likes getting all items in different colors. Now that I'm seeing how this works, I'll be lucky getting a couple of items in one color.

Again, all your math is based on the idea that Donuts are available when the Caravan is closed, which they aren't. There are now only three more days to get Donuts. That's not 1 post every 6 days, that's 65 posts in the next three days for JUST the hair items I like.

Yes I've made 5 posts in this thread. And posting in this thread is killing my soul, so is it worth it? Hmm.
Ziaheart wrote:(and if you subscribed to the threads then you would get emails every time someone posts in those threads so you wouldn't have to check those threads every day, anyway)
I said "check them all regularly" meaning the subscribe-thread page. Even if email-notification worked (which it doesn't, half the time I don't get an email notification and the other half it goes into spam even though I've marked it as not-spam), I still have to check the threads that have been posted in regularly, that's what I meant, regularly when it's been replied to, why are we quibbling about which ones I'm checking, obviously it's the replied-in ones, I didn't say "every day" like I'm going through inactive threads, why.
Ziaheart wrote:I still think you can manage this just fine and I even gave you a suggestion on how to increase your posts per day without putting too much more effort
Yes, thanks for your suggestions on how to minimize my effort, because I keep going on about the effort, because I am lazy, I am too lazy for any kind of effort, that was my point all along. It's not at all because it's something I don't enjoy doing, dislike doing, hate doing, and also don't want to do out of principle to not add more garbage to the site, it was the effort.
Ziaheart wrote:But it seems to me that you aren't open at all to my suggestion or to the possibility that the future Candy Caravan events might involve other methods that Firn already stated, so I won't bother you with any further posts.
I know there will likely be more methods. I look forward to them and hope that they will come before the items that I want expire, which is a concern considering that this event only runs for a few days and isn't even guaranteed each month. Don't forget: "If there is a seasonal event going on within a month, the Candy Caravan might possibly not appear during that month." This bit closes in a mere three days and considering next month is October - Halloween - the Caravan maybe won't be open next month. Then comes November - Thanksgiving - and then December - Christmas - so will the arm warmers expire before I can even get the points to purchase them? Probably not, this will probably change because it makes no sense, and I'm really not worried about it. Of course even if the items didn't expire ever, a person still has to make several dozen or hundreds of posts in less than a week or else have to wait a month or more for what they want, so.

Anyway, wasting my time, I know. I know that any and all criticism, ever, anywhere, is completely without value, no matter how constructive and civil it is, so my criticism is invalid just for the fact that it's criticism, I realize this. I know I need to shut up and shouldn't have said anything and just moved along and started posting garbage. But once again don't forget, my point wasn't "Give us more methods" nor was it "This event and these items are dumb" nor was it a question on how to accomplish getting these items with minimum effort. I was simply pointing out that this will create garbage threads and also that things like this don't really fix a problem such as this site has. That was my point. I've said it, it's true, there's really no need to go on about how attainable the items are if one just chokes back their social anxiety and joins in and does what they hate, spouting pointless nonsense about things they have no interest in just because why not. I'm happy to quietly wait for further ways to obtain Donuts.

Actually, new users would probably really appreciate lots of "welcome to the site!" posts :')

I don't think it will cause a lot of garbage threads. People who don't want to have conversations can just compliment avatars or something (or give neeebies the feeling they' re welcome). And people who don't want to socialize ever and don't think they are capable of non-spam posts probably won't break their principles for pixel items, will they?
