No, it's not just stigma. But, they don't have any more chance of getting it than any other wild animal such as foxes, skunks, raccoons, coyotes. Basically any wild animal that doesn't get vaccines could potentially be a rabies carrier.
Doesn't make me love any wild animals any less. In fact, I wish I had more bats in my area. I love to see them swooping around in the evening time.
